Sunday Afternoon

I want to picture you

on a Sunday afternoon, 

in the backyard, lawn chairs set out for two, 

a morning coffee before the cold drinks sweat.

No pomp or fuss,

just you, 

the garden, 

or your planted plots,  

the birds whose songs come to visit,

children play

underneath the sunnier side of the lawn; 

sun stains and milkshakes.



Or when rain drops on your windowpane,

grey skies lit by the sun that hides behind,

things taken indoors

to houses that feel lived in;

pancakes and sticky smiles, 

cuddles on the couch. 



There will always be space for scenic drives 

to ideal spots; 

backdrops and dresses, 

the castle and its landing, city parks;

beautiful, but not your everyday,

not the magic you already create 

in your home, your life.
